Beautiful gardens, a calm, clear sea and award-winning accommodation in a traditional ‘Greek village’ setting (complete with its own Byzantine chapel), Anassa is a stunning resort in every way and well deserved of its many awards, including the Conde Nast Traveller Best Europe Spa 2008 and Best Rooms 2009.
The hotel comprises low-rise buildings set amidst landscaped gardens, fragrant with aromatic herbs, bougainvillea and cypress trees. All beautifully-appointed and spacious suites (in the main building and gardens) have king-size beds, marbled bathrooms, an elegant lounge and a balcony with sea view. Some have private plunge and whirlpools. The private Alexandros Residence has its own kitchenette, dining room, study and pool along with two bedrooms, each with their own balcony and stunning sea view.
Three outdoor pools are truly spectacular. Like most resorts in Cyprus, the beach at Anassa is pebbled; however, there are plenty of sun loungers and fantastic service from friendly staff (they even turn your sun bed around to face the sun). For more energetic guests, tennis courts, a PADI Dive Centre and three championship golf courses (within easy driving distance) should meet your needs. Water sports include water-skiing, paragliding, sailing and snorkelling; alternatively you can hire one of the resort’s powerboats or even Anassa’s own yacht to explore the secluded bays of the Akamas Peninsula. And if that’s not enough, the resort can arrange jeep safaris, wine tasting, rock-climbing and hill-trekking!
The Spa at Anassa was recently re-launched as a Roman-styled thalassotherapy spa with a beautiful, mosaic-laden and heated indoor pool. In addition to its signature thalassotherapy treatments, it offers a huge array of holistic, therapeutic and beauty treatments as well as a fully equipped health and fitness centre, squash court and hair salon.
Of four resort restaurants, Basiliko offers modern Cypriot cuisine; Helios specialises in authentic Meditteranean cuisine with an extensive a la carte menu; Pelagos specialises in fresh fish caught locally and Amphora has more informal and relaxed buffet dining. Barbecues and fiestas are held regularly in the Village Square with traditional entertainment and dancing. The weekly beach BBQ is a must-do - with the sun setting as you eat fabulous food and listen to traditional bouzouki music.
